Shin Tae-yong said that the Indonesian U-19 national team needed additional players ahead of the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
The request was conveyed directly by Shin Tae-yong in an evaluation session with PSSI which took place at the PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) office on Wednesday (20/7/2022).
This additional player was deemed necessary by Shin Tae-yong after seeing the appearance of his team in the AFF U-19 Cup.
According to Shin, the Indonesian U-19 national team players have been very good so far. However, it takes players with much more mature readiness in any way to fight in the U-20 World Cup later.
Unmitigated, Shin emphasized that he needed additional players from the naturalization program.
It is very rare in Indonesian football to use naturalized players in the age group national team.
The goal is that the Indonesian U-19 national team can compete with other countries. For information, the Indonesian U-19 National Team is not only against teams from Asia.
They will also face teams from Europe, Latin America and Africa in the U-20 World Cup later.
These continents are famous for players who have a much better posture than Asia or Indonesia.
Therefore, Shin feels that naturalized players will greatly help Indonesia in competing in the event.

“When we play in the Under-20 World Cup, we will face a team with a tall and sturdy posture.”
“So, of course, this team needs new players, including naturalized players,” said the South Korean coach, as quoted by SuperBall.id via the PSSI official website.
In fact, this was also agreed by the manager of the Indonesian U-19 National Team and his deputy, namely Endri Erawan and Sumarji.
Endri Erawan said that the performance of the Indonesian U-19 National Team in the AFF U-19 Cup yesterday was not optimal.
This was seen when they competed against Vietnam some time ago.
“You could see in the first game against Vietnam, the mentality and the game scheme didn’t develop.”
“This is always a problem when Indonesia plays in the first match.”
“That must be STY’s correction so that every first match is immediately tuned in. Immediately gassed,” explained Sumarji.
Regarding the issue of naturalization, Endri Erawan suggested that Shin only take players from the Netherlands. Because, the Netherlands is a storehouse of players who have Indonesian ancestry.
According to him, the players in the Netherlands will also help the Indonesian U-19 national team in the future.
Indonesia will more often conduct training camps in the Netherlands if it is inhabited by players from that country. The potential to conduct a test match against a strong team is also wide open.
“Why from the Netherlands because in that country there are many players of Indonesian descent there. So in the future if you want to do a training camp it is better in the Netherlands.”
“In addition to being able to see potential naturalized players there, the clubs in the Netherlands are also very strong, so that during the trial it is very useful,” concluded Endri Erawan.
