PSSI Deputy Secretary General (Wasekjen) Maike Ira Puspita said the 2022 AFF Cup match between Indonesia and Thailand will be held at the Bung Karno Main Stadium.
️Of the four AFF Cup matches, Indonesia had the opportunity to host twice. In the first match against Cambodia on 23/23/2022 and the second match against Thailand on 28/12/2022.
Until now PSSI has not confirmed the location for the match. However, the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium is the first option, because the grass rehabilitation process is scheduled to be completed in December.
“Until now it has not been determined, there is indeed an option to go to GBK. If it is ready, we prioritize GBK for the AFF Cup,” said Maike when met at the French embassy, Thursday 08/09/2022.
Trimnas Indonesia last played at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in 2019. At that time, Indonesia lost 0-3 to face Thailand in the World Cup qualifying group stage.
After that match, GBK could not be used because it was renovated to prepare for the 2021 U-20 World Cup which was eventually cancelled.
Meanwhile, in the middle of this year the grass in GBK will be rejuvenated and is targeted to be completed in December.
Because it cannot be used, the FIFA Matchday match against Curacao will be held at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium and the Jakarta International Stadium which will eventually be replaced at the Pakansari Stadium.
